Williamson County & City of Round Rock Licensing Laws

If you live in Williamson County or the City of Round Rock, you must register your pet! Tags can be purchased at most veterinary clinics and at the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter (Animal Control Facility for Williamson County) with proof of Rabies Vaccination.

Why do I have to Register my pet? It's the Law.
In order to identify and more quickly reunite lost pets with their owners, the City of Round Rock and Williamson County require that all dogs and cats, whether indoor or outdoor pets, be registered each year.

How much does it cost?
Pet Registration Tags cost $30 for intact animals or $5 for spayed/neutered animals (proof of spay/neuter is required). Proof of rabies vaccination is required for all Pet Registration Tags.

To get a tag, bring to the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter (animal control facility) or your local vet, your pet's rabies vaccination certificate and a check in the appropriate amount for the registration fee.

How often do I need to purchase tags?
Registrations expire when the pet's current rabies vaccination expires. For example, if your pet was vaccinated for rabies in January and you did not purchase your Pet Registration Tag until May, the Pet Registration Tag will expire the following January when the rabies vaccination expires. Thereafter, you should purchase both tags at the same time, and both will expire a year later.

Do I really have to do this?
ALL cats and dogs over the age of four months must be registered. Failure to register your pet and obey leash laws can cost you up to $500 in fines.

What else should I know? The City of Round Rock has approved other additions to their animal control ordinance that may affect your family. There are different regulations that apply to the unincorporated areas of Williamson County.
