This was our next-to-last day of our Software Skills through Humane Education group at the Leander Public Library.  Today our group had the opportunity to spend time with Hunter, a one-year old Jack Russell terrier mix.  After having their pictures taken with Hunter and writing recommendations for him (below), our group participated in an activity highlighting the importance of spaying and neutering.  On the final group day, our students will have a chance to create a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation about just what it takes to care for a dog.

Laughing With Love

Long tail beats the ground,
coarse coat shimmying,
body wriggling,
whole body laughing with the joy of being alive.

Ears prick up,
piercing the heavy air.
His short legs prance across the moist earth,
sharp nose inhaling the rain-laden scents.
Spinning wildly towards a far-off smell or sight or sound,
His tongue lolls and he dances with sheer pleasure.

Hunter knows to live and let live.
Hunter learns through experience.
Hunter sniffs the wind, tasting all the things still unexplored.

Hunter kisses you and smells you,
savoring his time with you,
for, though he loves his shelter home,
he wants a boy of his own,
to run with a roll with.
He wants a girl of his own,
to cuddle with and dance with.

He wants you.

Hunter’s long tail beats the ground,
wagging with pleasure at the idea of a home with you.
Hunter’s coarse coat, now shiny with care and attention,
shimmies to the rhythm of living life to its fullest.
Hunter’s body wriggles with the pure ecstasy of being with you.

Hunter’s whole self laughs with love.

Hunter is so much fun and Hunter rocks!  He is like the best dog.  And he loves people and children and he loves belly-rubs.  And he is a Jack Russell terrier.  He is white and brown and he has brown spots all over his belly.  He even gave me a kiss on the cheek! And he is so thoughtful and he has a nose that is so wet! And he is such a licker and that’s all.  I have to say.
